Chartered Institute of Language and Translation

The Institute was approved and registered with the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), Cap C20 LFN 2020.

Before the final approval, the institution went through many stages. The founders started it as IITAS (International Institute of Translation and Allied Services). During the registration process, there was a recommendation to change the name to align with the professional nature. The name got changed to ILAPROT (Institute of Language and Professional Translation) and the registration process was restarted. On the 12th day of July 2021, The Honorable Ministry of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, formally approved the Objectives and Bylaws of the Institution and requested a review of the name. The final submission was then introduced as CILTRA LIMITED (Chartered Institute of Language and translation), which got a final approval on the 6th day of October 2021. 

Certified Professional Translator

The Certified Professional Translator (CPT) is designed by the Chartered Institute of Language and Translation as a designation for a Certified Translator. The Designation has three major specializations: CPTG (The Certified Professional Translator - General), CPTL (The Certified Professional Translator - Law), CPTM (The Certified Professional Translator - Medical).

CPT admission requirements

All candidates looking to complete the CPT Program must be able to read and write fluently in both English or French and their target language. A degree certificate from a recognized higher learning institution must be submitted.
